The Indian cricket team will not be traveling to Pakistan for the upcoming Asia Cup, according to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
This stance was reinforced at the recent Asian Cricket Council’s (ACC) executive board meeting in Bahrain, where the BCCI stated that it would not receive clearance from the Indian government to travel to Pakistan.
The ACC decided to delay its decision on the host country for the Asia Cup until its next meeting in March, however, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) was originally scheduled to host the tournament.
BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, who is also the Chairman of the ACC, had previously stated that the Indian cricket team would not be traveling to Pakistan. The BCCI has no issue with playing in another country as long as the PCB is the host nation.
The ACC is considering venues such as Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Sharjah as possible locations for the Asia Cup, if the PCB agrees to host the tournament. Shah has also reportedly spoken to the new Chairman of the PCB, Najam Sethi, about the matter.
