New Delhi:
Following the tragic terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives—mostly tourists—the Indian government has extended full support to travelers currently in Jammu and Kashmir. Union Tourism Minister Gajendra Shekhawat assured immediate assistance to those looking to return home safely.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the minister said,

“In light of yesterday’s tragic incident in Kashmir, many tourists are understandably anxious and reconsidering their travel plans. I’ve spoken to authorities and urged airlines, hotels, and tour operators to provide full refunds without any hassle.”

The Jammu and Kashmir administration is also taking swift action. Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, expressing deep sorrow, acknowledged the mass departure of tourists:

“It’s heartbreaking to see our guests leaving the valley, but we understand their concerns. Their safety is our priority.”

A dedicated control room has been established at Srinagar Airport to facilitate a smooth transition for departing passengers. Authorities are coordinating with airlines to expedite the return of the victims’ bodies and to assist grieving families.

The horrifying incident occurred in Baisaran meadow, near Pahalgam, on Tuesday afternoon, when terrorists opened indiscriminate fire. It has been labeled the deadliest attack in Kashmir since the 2019 Pulwama bombing.
