J&K Political Leaders Unite Against Terror: Strong Condemnation and Call for National Solidarity After Pahalgam Attack
In a rare show of unity, leaders from across the political spectrum in Jammu and Kashmir came together at an all-party meeting convened by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in Srinagar, to strongly denounce the brutal April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which left 25 tourists and a local resident dead.
Held at the Sher-e-Kashmir International Conference Centre, the three-and-a-half-hour session concluded with a unanimously adopted resolution that condemned the attack as a “cowardly assault on peace and Kashmiriyat.” The resolution extended full support to the Union Government’s swift and firm steps taken in response to the tragedy.
Reading out the resolution, Omar Abdullah expressed anguish over the attack, calling it a direct strike against the long-standing values of unity and harmony that define the idea of India and Kashmir.
“These acts of brutality have no place in our society. We remain committed to bringing the perpetrators to justice and will not allow terror to shake our resolve,” the statement read.
Significantly, the resolution called upon all state governments across the country to extend full protection and support to Kashmiri students and residents living outside the Union Territory.
“These individuals must be shielded from any harassment or discrimination. Our unity must extend beyond borders,” it emphasized.
The resolution also praised the people of Jammu and Kashmir for their compassion and solidarity, acknowledging the peaceful demonstrations and moral support offered to tourists in the aftermath of the attack.
Special recognition was given to Syed Adil Hussain Shah, the brave pony handler who was killed while confronting one of the terrorists in Baisaran. Shah’s courage was hailed as an example of the region’s undying spirit and resilience.
Among the attendees were leaders from the National Conference, Congress, Peoples Democratic Party, People’s Conference, Awami Ittehad Party, Democratic Progressive Azad Party, and the CPI(M), symbolizing a rare and powerful moment of political consensus in the face of terror.
