The Election Commission of India has issued a notice to Congress over its “corruption rate card” advertisements in poll-bound Karnataka. The notice was issued following a complaint lodged by the BJP.
The commission sought “empirical” evidence from Congress to prove its allegations and asked the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president to submit the evidence before 7 pm on 7th May (Sunday). The Congress had released a set of posters and advertisements alleging “corruption rates” in Karnataka between 2019 – 2023 ahead of the May 10 assembly polls.
The party called the BJP the “trouble engine” and claimed that the ruling government had “looted” ₹1,50,000 crore in the last four years. The “corruption rate card” allegedly listed various ‘scandals’ of the ruling government in the state including the ’40 percent commission’ charge by the state contractors. If Congress fails to provide evidence, the allegations in the advertisements will be considered baseless.
