Vancouver, BC – A horrifying incident took place on April 27, 2025, at the Lapu Lapu Festival in Vancouver, when a car ploughed into a crowd, resulting in the tragic deaths of 11 people, including children, and leaving dozens more injured. Who is Kai-Ji Adam Lo?
The suspect, Kai-Ji Adam Lo, a 30-year-old Vancouver resident, has been charged with multiple counts of second-degree murder. Lo, who reportedly had a history of mental health issues, allegedly drove his SUV into the crowd, killing victims aged between 5 and 65. He was arrested at the scene and was known to both law enforcement and mental health professionals prior to the incident. More charges are expected as the investigation unfolds.
Police Statement
Vancouver’s Police Chief Steve Rai described the incident as “the darkest day in our city’s history.” He confirmed that there was no interaction with law enforcement that immediately preceded the attack.
Eyewitness Accounts of Horror
Eyewitnesses described a scene of terror as Lo allegedly accelerated down the street in his black SUV, striking festivalgoers. “It was like seeing a bowling ball hit — all the bowling pins flying up in the air,” said festivalgoer Kris Pangilinan. Other witnesses, like Jen Idaba-Castaneto, expressed shock and panic attacks after witnessing the carnage. One eyewitness, Dale Selipe, recounted seeing injured children lying in the street, with some victims having severe injuries, including broken limbs.
Security guard Jen Idaba-Castaneto mentioned, “You don’t know who to help, here or there,” as bodies were scattered across the scene.
