Trump Condemns Pahalgam Attack, Urges India-Pakistan to Resolve Tensions Peacefully
US President Donald Trump has broken his silence on the recent terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam that left 26 people—mostly tourists—dead. Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One en route to Rome on Friday, Trump condemned the incident and described it as a “bad one.”
“That was a bad one… The tensions have always been there at the Indo-Pak border, but they’ll get it figured out, one way or the other,” said Trump.
He acknowledged the long-standing hostility between India and Pakistan, but expressed confidence that both nations would manage the situation on their own.
“I know both leaders. There’s great tension between Pakistan and India, but that has always been there,” Trump added.
The Pahalgam terror attack, which occurred on April 22, has triggered a major diplomatic fallout between the two nuclear-armed neighbors. It is being called the deadliest attack since the 2019 Pulwama bombing.

India’s Strong Measures Post-Attack
In response to the massacre, India has implemented several punitive measures:
- Suspended the Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan.
- Expelled Pakistani military attaches.
- Shut down the Attari land transit point immediately.
- Revoked all visas issued to Pakistani nationals from April 27.
- Advised Indian citizens in Pakistan to return home urgently.
Pakistan’s Retaliation
On Thursday, Pakistan reacted by:
- Closing its airspace to Indian carriers.
- Suspending all trade with India, including through third-party countries.
- Rejecting India’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, warning that any attempt to stop the water flow would be viewed as an “act of war.”
PM Modi Vows Justice
In an address following the attack, Prime Minister Narendra Modi vowed to track down those responsible:
“We will chase the killers of Pahalgam to the ends of the earth. Every terrorist and their backers will be identified, tracked, and punished.”
As tensions continue to escalate, the world watches closely, hoping that both nations will de-escalate diplomatically and avoid further conflict.
