Houston Party Turns Deadly: 1 Killed, 13 Injured in Mass Shooting by Uninvited Guest
Houston, Texas — May 1, 2025
A family celebration in southeast Houston turned into a scene of horror early Sunday morning when gunfire erupted at a house party, killing at least one person and injuring 13 others. The violence began shortly after an uninvited individual was asked to leave the gathering.
The Houston Police Department received multiple 911 calls around 12:50 a.m. reporting gunshots at the event. Officers arriving on the scene were met with active gunfire and immediate chaos.
“It was chaotic from the get-go,” said Assistant Police Chief Patricia Cantu. “Multiple victims were found with gunshot wounds in and around the home.”
Shooter Was a Party Crasher
Authorities say the suspect was not invited to the event and began shooting after being asked to leave. The suspect’s actions triggered a shootout, as some attendees reportedly returned fire.
“It was a family party. An uninvited guest was asked to leave and then opened fire,” said Cantu. “Others at the party who were armed began shooting back.”
Celebration Ends in Tragedy
Footage from the aftermath showed the remnants of the celebration: overturned tables, scattered chairs, and food under tents and carports—evidence of what had started as a joyful evening.
Emergency responders treated several victims on-site, while others were transported or made their way to hospitals. At least one person has died, while others remain in critical condition undergoing surgery.
Investigation Ongoing
Police detained multiple people for questioning but have not confirmed whether the shooter is among them. No arrests have been made as of this writing.
“We’re still trying to determine who the actual shooter is,” Cantu said. “This remains a very complicated case due to the number of people and the chaos.”
Officers continue to interview witnesses and review surveillance footage from the area.
