US Urges India, Pakistan to De-escalate After Pahalgam Terror Attack; Calls for Accountability
In the wake of the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 26 civilians—mostly tourists—the United States has called for calm between India and Pakistan, emphasizing the need for joint efforts to ensure regional peace.
According to a PTI report, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio held separate calls with India’s External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar and Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to address the escalating tensions between the two nuclear neighbors.
In his conversation with Jaishankar, Rubio expressed condolences for the “horrific” loss of life and reaffirmed America’s support for India in its fight against terrorism. He emphasized that the U.S. is committed to collaborating with New Delhi to hold perpetrators accountable.
Rubio also encouraged India to maintain open communication and take steps to de-escalate with Pakistan to ensure broader peace and security in South Asia.
In his call with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Rubio underscored the urgency of condemning the April 22 attack and urged Islamabad to cooperate in the investigation. He labeled the incident as an “unconscionable act” and reiterated the need for Pakistan to restore communication channels with India and help reduce rising tensions.
The U.S. emphasized the importance of regional stability and made it clear that terrorists must be held accountable, regardless of where they operate.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a stern message in the aftermath of the Pahalgam attack, vowing that India would track and punish every terrorist and their supporters, stating, “We will pursue them to the ends of the Earth.”
Modi also thanked global leaders who stood in solidarity with India, reinforcing the global consensus against terrorism and violence.
