Mamata Banerjee Blames RSS and BJP for Sparking Communal Tensions in West Bengal
Kolkata, April 12, 2025 – West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has sharply criticized the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing them of inciting communal unrest in the state.
In an open letter to the public on Saturday, Banerjee alleged that these groups were provoking violence and unrest using the backdrop of a recent incident. “The RSS and BJP are deliberately trying to stir communal tensions in West Bengal. They have suddenly become aggressive in their activities, trying to manipulate a tragic incident for divisive political gains,” she said.
Warning the people of the state, the Chief Minister urged citizens not to fall for these tactics. “They want to provoke riots that will hurt everyone. We believe in peace, unity, and coexistence. We strongly oppose any attempt to divide people for electoral benefits.”
Banerjee emphasized the state’s commitment to harmony, urging both majority and minority communities to stand together. “The criminals behind these riots are being dealt with firmly. However, the greater challenge is to maintain mutual trust and avoid falling into the trap of hate.”
To maintain law and order and protect human life and dignity, the government has taken strict measures. “Two police officers-in-charge have already been removed, and an investigation is ongoing. More actions will follow based on findings,” she assured.
Calling for calm and communal harmony, Banerjee concluded her message by reinforcing that her government is against all forms of violence and remains committed to ensuring the safety and unity of every citizen.
