Basti Danishmanda Fire Mistaken for Drone Attack Sparks Panic, Police Clarify Misinformation
Jalandhar, May 11 – Panic gripped residents of Basti Danishmanda on Saturday morning after a fire on a vacant plot was mistaken for a drone strike, triggering chaos in the neighborhood.
A viral video circulating on social media claimed a drone had attacked near the residential area, prompting dozens to rush to the site in fear. However, authorities swiftly responded and debunked the rumors.
ACP North Aatish Bhatiya, who led the investigation, confirmed that the fire was caused by burning garbage on the empty plot and not a drone or explosive device.
“The news was completely false. It was just a garbage fire. We urge citizens not to spread unverified information that causes unnecessary panic,” said ACP Bhatiya.
The police warned residents against sharing unverified or misleading content online, especially in times of heightened security concerns. Officials further cautioned the public to avoid approaching unknown debris or burning sites, as these can still pose safety hazards.
The Commissionerate Police and District Administration issued a joint advisory urging citizens to remain calm and trust only official updates during emergencies.
