Multiple Universities in Punjab Postpone Exams Due to Indo-Pak Border Tensions
Amid escalating Indo-Pak tensions, several major universities in Punjab have postponed their examinations and temporarily revised operations to ensure the safety of students and faculty.
Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), Jalandhar, has extended the postponement of all exams for affiliated colleges until May 17. Previously, exams scheduled on May 8, 9, and 10 had already been deferred. The university has advised students to frequently check the official portal for further updates.
In Patiala, Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology announced closure of the campus until May 18. A revised examination schedule will be released depending on how the situation unfolds. Students have been given the option to return to their homes if they wish.
IK Gujral Punjab Technical University (IKGPTU) has postponed exams scheduled between May 8 to 10. A notification from the Controller of Examinations stated that the revised timetable will be announced at least five days before the new exam dates, and urged students to stay connected via the university’s website.
Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot, has also delayed all theory and practical exams originally scheduled for May 9, 10, and 11. Revised dates will be issued soon, according to university officials.
Meanwhile, Lovely Professional University (LPU), Phagwara, has offered flexibility to its hostel students, allowing them to return home. Those who leave will be permitted to appear in end-term exams online, subject to government guidelines. LPU stated that on-campus exams and academic activities will resume from May 12 as per the original plan. A helpline has been made available for student support: 01824-520150.
These proactive measures come in response to rising concerns following cross-border military activities and heightened security alerts across northern India.
