Rajnath Singh Slams IMF Over $2.1 Billion Aid to Pakistan Amid Terror Attacks on India

New Delhi: India’s Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has urged the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to reconsider its recent $2.1 billion bailout package to Pakistan, accusing the country of continuing to sponsor cross-border terrorism using international aid.

Speaking at the Bhuj Indian Air Force Station in Gujarat, Singh stated that IMF funding indirectly supports terrorism by providing financial stability to a country that allows its soil to be used for launching state-backed attacks on Indian civilians and military establishments.

His remarks came in the backdrop of Operation Sindoor, a massive Indian military campaign that targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK). The strikes followed Pakistan’s missile and drone assaults on Indian civilian and defence zones in the northern region, including the Bhuj air base.

“This IMF assistance is not economic aid, but indirect terror funding,” Singh said while addressing IAF personnel. He highlighted that the Bhuj base, though targeted, had successfully intercepted all incoming threats using India’s advanced air defence systems.

Singh pointed to Pakistan’s long-standing role as a sanctuary for global terrorists, recalling that even Osama bin Laden had found refuge there before being killed in 2011.

Standing in front of a Jaguar deep-penetration strike aircraft and the S-125 Pechora missile system, Singh praised the IAF’s precision strikes during Operation Sindoor. “The time you take to have breakfast is all it took to eliminate terrorists,” he said, to thunderous applause.

“Indian missiles lit up the night sky in Pakistan like daylight,” Singh added, referencing the visuals of targeted explosions that illuminated Pakistani neighborhoods during the operation.

The IMF had disbursed the $2.1 billion to Pakistan in two tranches as part of a $7 billion Extended Fund Facility (EFF) agreement signed in 2023. Singh’s remarks reflect growing concerns within India over international financial institutions aiding regimes accused of sponsoring terrorism.
