BJP Slams Gandhis Over National Herald Case, Calls Them “Most Corrupt Family in the World”

BJP Calls Gandhis “Most Corrupt Family in the World” Amid ED Charges in National Herald Case

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on the Congress leadership, calling the National Herald money laundering case a glaring example of the party’s deep-rooted corruption. Reacting to the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) charge sheet against Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and others, BJP leaders said it clearly exposes financial wrongdoing at the highest levels of the Congress party.

Speaking to the media, BJP MP and chief spokesperson Anil Baluni stated that the ED’s investigation has revealed how the Gandhi family used a shell company—Young Indian Pvt. Ltd.—to take control of Associated Journals Ltd (AJL), gaining access to properties worth thousands of crores. He emphasized that Sonia and Rahul Gandhi were named as accused numbers 1 and 2, respectively, in the chargesheet filed on April 9.

“This is a living example of Congress’s corruption,” said Baluni, adding, “No one is above the Constitution. No matter how big the name, justice will prevail.”

The BJP reiterated that Young Indian was formed not for business purposes, but specifically to acquire AJL’s assets, which were meant for public use but were allegedly privatized for personal gain. The Delhi court will next hear the matter on April 25, as Special Judge Vishal Gogne has taken the charge sheet into consideration.

Congress leaders Sam Pitroda and Suman Dubey were also named in the ED’s chargesheet, further fueling the political firestorm.

While the Congress Party called the ED action “vendetta politics”, the BJP dismissed these claims. Sudhanshu Trivedi, BJP’s Rajya Sabha MP and national spokesperson, reminded the public that the case began under Congress’s own rule in 2012, with a Delhi High Court PIL in 2013. “The Congress’s claims are baseless and intended to influence an ongoing investigation,” he said.

Adding to the BJP’s charges, Shehzad Poonawalla accused the Gandhis of misusing public funds and playing the victim card when held accountable. “Looting public assets and crying foul when action is taken is a Congress hallmark,” he said, stressing that corrupt leaders must pay back what they have taken.

In a related development, after businessman Robert Vadra, son-in-law of Sonia Gandhi, was questioned in the Haryana land scam, BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia alleged that the Gandhis helped Vadra grab farmers’ land during their rule. “Vadra’s actions reflect the corrupt nature of the family. All three—Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Robert Vadra—are out on bail,” Bhatia noted.

Taking a hardline stance, the BJP declared, “If there exists any family globally that represents political corruption at its peak, it is the Gandhi family.”
