In a decisive military response to the recent Pahalgam terror attack, the Indian armed forces launched ‘Operation Sindoor’, targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) in the early hours of Wednesday, confirmed by India’s Ministry of Defence.
According to the official statement, nine terror-linked locations were hit using precision standoff weapons, while Indian aircraft remained within Indian airspace. Targets included sites across the international border in Muridke and Bahawalpur, and across the Line of Control (LoC) in Kotli and Muzaffarabad in PoK.
Shortly after the operation, the Indian Army posted on X: “Justice is served. Jai Hind!”, while Defence Minister Rajnath Singh added, “Bharat Mata ki Jai”, reaffirming the government’s commitment to national security.

A press release from the Press Information Bureau (PIB) noted that the operation was measured, focused, and non-escalatory, with no Pakistani military facilities targeted. The strikes were designed to avoid civilian harm while delivering a clear message in response to cross-border terrorism.
This action comes in the wake of the barbaric April 22 attack in Pahalgam, where 25 Indian tourists and one Nepali guide were killed by terrorists with alleged links to Pakistan. The Indian government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, vowed a strong and proportionate retaliation — a promise fulfilled through Operation Sindoor.
Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry acknowledged the strikes and claimed casualties, warning of a retaliatory response “at a time and place of its choosing.”
Meanwhile, Indian diplomatic channels have been actively briefing allies, including the United States, United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, UAE, and Russia, about the operation and the reasons behind it.
As part of a broader strategy post-Pahalgam, India has already:
- Suspended the Indus Waters Treaty
- Closed the Attari border crossing
- Cancelled most categories of Pakistani visas
- Downgraded diplomatic ties with Islamabad
The international community, including US President Donald Trump, has urged both nations to de-escalate tensions and engage in dialogue.
A full official briefing on Operation Sindoor is expected later today.
