New Delhi, May 1, 2025: The Supreme Court of India on Thursday declined to entertain a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking a judicial inquiry into the Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed multiple innocent lives. The petition requested a probe led by a retired Supreme Court judge.

The Bench, headed by Justice Surya Kant, firmly rejected the plea, stating that “judges are not experts in such matters”, and emphasized that issues of national security should not be dragged into the judicial domain unnecessarily.

“This is a critical time when the entire nation stands united against terrorism,” the court observed. “Filing such petitions only serves to demoralize our brave security forces.”

The apex court sternly warned against politicizing security-related issues and questioned the intent behind such PILs. It reminded petitioners that judiciary must not be used to interfere in matters better handled by intelligence and defense experts.

The strong stance comes amid growing national outrage over the attack in Pahalgam and continued operations by Indian security forces to ensure justice and maintain peace.
