JioStar, the recently formed joint venture that merged Viacom18 and Star India today announced the launch of JioHotstar, a new streaming platform that brings together content from JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar.
JioHotstar CEO Kiran Mani said that the platform aims to make “premium entertainment truly accessible to all Indians.” With content catering to over 1.4 billion Indians in 10 languages, JioHotstar will let users watch their favorite shows, movies, and live sports from within a single app.
In an announcement, JioHotstar said JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar subscribers will be able to easily transition to the new platform. Apart from original content, JioHotstar will also aggregate content from the likes of NBCUniversal Peacock, Warner Bros, Discovery, HBO, and Paramount, which is something no other streaming service offers at the moment.
JioHotstar also introduced Sparks, a new initiative that will shine a spotlight on India’s biggest digital creator. The platform will also be home to premier cricket tournaments like IPL, WPL, and ICC events. You will also be able to watch Premier League, Wimbledon, and domestic leagues like Pro Kabaddi and ISL.
Apart from 4K streaming, JioHotstar will also offer features like AI-powered insights, real-time stats overlays, multi-angle viewing, and even show ‘special interest’ feeds. JioHotstar plans will start from Rs 149 for three months for mobile. Here’s a detailed breakdown of the plans.
